commissions
Every artist has their own commission process, so here’s where I’ll tell you all about mine. I love creating commissions. When I first began painting in earnest, I primarily used it as an outlet for my own processing, but once I began making paintings for others, I realized that showing people who they are, what they believe, or how they’ve experienced life and built relationships in color, texture, and movement is where my true passion lies.
We’ll start with a consultation, during which we’ll go over logistics – size, style, color, composition, timeline, and price. I like to discuss your design preferences, see where the artwork is going to be displayed, and what you might have in mind for framing and delivery/installation. More important than all that, though, is learning about you, and what you want your commission to say. Because I specialize in abstract portraiture, I want to get to know you in order to accurately evoke what it is that you’re trying to highlight in your piece. If you haven’t got a clue what that might be, don’t worry! Ultimately, that’s my job! When you see your piece for the first time, I want it to feel like the painting couldn’t possibly have been created for anyone else.
After the initial consultation, should you be ready to dive in, I’ll request a 25% deposit to cover the cost of materials and keep me caffeinated through the process of creating your painting. And then I’ll paint! I don’t typically do visual check-ins throughout the process because I like the reveal to be upon completion, and ideally, installation. Once it’s complete and ready for framing, I’ll check in to finalize framing, delivery, and installation, and the remaining 75% of the total project cost will be due.
